Pleasure craft operator's course 2008 another successful programOn Saturday, July 5, 2008 forty-eight people attended this year’s “boating school” at Killaloe Public. From about 8:30 to 1:00 pm the presenter, Jim Steeves of Safety Afloat, delivered a factual and entertaining course based on the Canadian Coast Guard accredited course manual. Six segments were covered over the three and a half-hour presentation. This was followed by the writing of a test that covered all general aspects of boating safety and standards. As in the previous year, all participants achieved a passing grade. At the conclusion of the session, many people expressed their relief at receiving their temporary operator's card. Since then, permanent lifetime permits have been mailed to everyone. Many also thanked organizers for the convenient and efficient venue at the local school. Sponsors for this course presentation are: George's Marine and Sports of Eganville and Kanata and Killaloe Sports Plus Ltd. This was the second year that GLPOA offered this course. With the deadline looming in 2009 for all boaters to have an operators permit, we expect that there will be many people eager to take this course next year. Plans are already underway for year three, with the date set for July 4th at Killaloe Public School. |
