operator's course a great success! On Saturday, July 7, 2007 eighty people, ranging in age from eight through to their eighties, attended boating school at Killaloe Public. From about 8:30 to almost 2:00 pm the presenter, Jim Steeves of Safety Afloat, delivered a factual and entertaining course based on the Canadian Coast Guard accredited course manual. Six segments were covered over the three and a half-hour presentation. This was followed by the writing of a test that covered mainly highlights, but all general aspects of boating safety and standards were covered. All eighty participants achieved a passing grade. At the conclusion of the session, many people expressed their relief at receiving their temporary operator's card. Many also thanked organizers for the convenient and efficient venue at the local school. Organizer Dave Lemkay, of the Golden Lake Property Owners Association, thanked partners and sponsors, including Round Lake Property Owners Association, George's Marine and Sports of Eganville and Kanata and Killaloe Sports Plus Ltd. Plans are underway to repeat this course in the summer of 2008. |
